I wrote about Emily's birth, and it has taken my almost 6 months to write about Elise's birth (September 22, 2010 - 8lbs 8oz.) When you have one child, you think they are a lot of work. Then your second child comes and in hindsight, one was a breeze....
I decided to write a poem about Elise's birth, and I hope it captures the frantic pace from which she burst forth into the world!
Blink 220
Blink, 220
Flash of pain, hugging my belly
Like the world’s tightest bear hug
12:45, the show has begun
Blink, 190
Thoughts of calmly labouring in the tub,
are out the window
Biting my lip every, 5, 4, 3 minutes…
Blink, 130
Panic rushes in
Losing control
Get me out of here
Blink, 115
Can’t walk
Wheeling past slack jawed observers?
Eyes are closed as I moan through this awkward moment
Blink, 100
Alone, parking ticket not needed…
Annoying nurse - be gone
Relief is spelled d-o-u-l-a
Blink, 75
New room, I think – it’s all a blur
Measurements taken
7cm already – no time for an epidural
Blink, 50
Gush, splash, ooze, across the room
Pressure relieved
Hubby, not so much, got him this time…
Blink, 25
Stirrups,
Doctor,
1, 2, 3, a warrior screams
Blink
You
Blink
Are
Blink
Perfect - Elise
